World Cup 2026 (Q): Germany clinch hard-fought victory against Northern Ireland
In Frankfurt, Germany endured some tense moments but ultimately secured a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland on Sunday night in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
The match actually got off to a great start. In just the 7th minute, Serge Gnabry opened the scoring with a superb lob, capitalizing on a pass from Woltemade. But the joy was short-lived. In the 34th minute, Isaac Price equalized with a powerful strike under the crossbar, silencing the German crowd. Worse still, just before halftime, David Raum’s goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

After the break, Die Mannschaft created a flurry of chances but struggled to convert. Leweling and Anton each saw their efforts denied by the Northern Irish defense. Finally, relief came in the 69th minute: Nadiem Amiri finished off a slick team move to restore the lead (2-1). Just three minutes later, Florian Wirtz sealed the win with a stunning free kick into the top corner (3–1).
