Former Wisconsin quarterback Braedyn Locke is set to enter the 2025 season as the backup to Arizona Wildcats‘ starting quarterback Noah Fifita.
Locke transferred to the Wildcats this offseason after two seasons with the Badgers. He originally began his career at Mississippi State, transferring to Wisconsin after Luke Fickell’s arrival in December 2022. Locke appeared in 16 games over those two seasons, starting 12 (three in 2023, nine in 2024). He was thrust into extended action during each of the two campaigns, especially in 2024, after long-term injuries to starters Tanner Mordecai and Tyler Van Dyke, respectively. His final numbers as a Badger: 164 of 296 passing (55.4%), 2,713 yards, 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Locke was one of four Wisconsin quarterbacks to transfer elsewhere after the program fired former offensive coordinator Phil Longo and hired Kansas OC Jeff Grimes. He committed to Arizona, where Fifita returns as a multi-year starter and one of the more established quarterbacks in the Big 12.
Of all college quarterbacks, Locke should know better than any that a backup is always one play from being thrust into a prominent role.
