The SEC is home to some of the best college football venues in the sport. When OU and Texas made the move to the SEC back in 2024, they moved into a super-sized league. Texas had the largest capacity, and Oklahoma was No. 2 in the old Big 12. But now, they’re in good company with some fantastic home environments.
In a league that coined the phrase, “It just means more,” the SEC puts that on display every Saturday on college campuses. The SEC is home to 11 of the top 20 stadium capacities in college football, which makes those gameday atmospheres incredible to witness.
Oklahoma’s Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium is the home to one of the blue bloods of college football and the backdrop for some of the best players to ever play the game. USA TODAY Sports college football writers Blake Toppermeyer and Paul Myerburg ranked the top 25 stadiums in college football, and OU’s home field came in at 11.

The Oklahoma Sooners have won seven national championships and seven Heisman Trophy winners. They’ve won a lot of games in Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium. In 2024, the Sooner faithful showed the type of atmosphere they can provide in their first SEC home game against Tennessee, even though it was a loss, and in Oklahoma’s huge upset win over Alabama in November.
Tiger Stadium, home to the LSU Tigers, came in at No. 1 on the list. Oklahoma witnessed firsthand what that environment, especially at night, can do to a team.
This year, the Sooners will play three away games in stadiums that made the list. Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium came in at No. 6, Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium ranked No. 8, and South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium came in at No. 17.
Much of Oklahoma’s success in 2025 will depend on how they handle those road environments. Oklahoma, in turn, will provide a great home atmosphere for tough matchups against Michigan, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Missouri.
