Derby Week kicked off Saturday with the 151st Kentucky Derby and Oaks post-position draws, but many already are thinking about the weather for the Run for the Roses on May 3 at Churchill Downs.
Journalism co-owner Aron Wellman had the weather on his mind Saturday, too. Derby favorite Journalism‘s last pre-race workout was postponed until Sunday.
“In a perfect world we would have worked today, seven days out from the race,” Wellman said. “But not being 100% comfortable with the track condition we just decided to err on the side of caution and wait an extra day.”
Journalism galloped Saturday but didn’t breeze.
