What will Adam Peters, Dan Quinn say ahead of training camp?

Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn will speak with the media on Tuesday ahead of training camp.

Wonder what the second topic will be from the media questions? No sense asking or wondering what the first topic of questions is going to be? That is what they call a no-brainer, as it should be.

Terry McLaurin and his contract negotiations will be the topic those in the media want to inquire about most. So, if you are head coach Dan Quinn, at least you can immediately state that you coach the players who are present. But you have no say in the negotiations, so you can pass the buck on that question to the GM, Peters.

So, how will Peters respond? Will Peters push back on McLaurin going on and on (and on) last week for 30 minutes in what could have taken 10 minutes? Will he push back, expressing he doesn’t like being made to look like the bad guy? Perhaps Peters might decide to call out Terry in some fashion, by providing some terms that have been offered?

You see, last week Terry clearly gave the impression he had attempted his part in these negotiations, but the Commanders are not cooperating. McLaurin even went as far as to say he has to do what is best for his family. But what terms did Terry provide last week? Of course, McLaurin did not provide any terms, any price tags. After all, it’s a little harder to present yourself as being disrespected by the Commanders when you provide actual terms. Imagine Terry stating his line about what is best for his family while clarifying, “Yes, I want 32 million, and the Commanders are not budging from 29.5 million. They are disrespecting me.”

Having said all of that, perhaps the Commanders might actually be disrespecting McLaurin. Truth is, we don’t have any idea. McLaurin provided us only his feelings last week, but no actual facts. That’s the subjective nature of our human feelings. We can feel very strongly, very sincerely, but that doesn’t mean we are correct on a matter.

What will Peters provide Tuesday? He should provide something of substance, rather than merely his hurt feelings, as McLaurin did. If Peters chooses not to provide anything actual, he will only raise further suspicions for a fan base and media that have largely already taken McLaurin’s side, though they have only heard one side.

Wisdom tells us, having only heard one side, none of us should have taken a side in this. Peters has an opportunity on Tuesday to remind us all how significant the old proverb is that says, “A wise man hears both sides of a matter.”
