A new era of Houston Texans football is underway for 2025.
Headlined by C.J. Stroud, Will Anderson Jr., Derek Stingley Jr. and Nico Collins, the Texans looked poised to make a run to the AFC title game for the first time in franchise history. Everything, however, has to start off with a promising result in Week 1, which is why a win over the Los Angeles Rams is essential.
For the most part, the Texans are expected to be at full strength on defense. Offensively, there are several questions at the wide receiver position following the injuries to Christian Kirk and Braxton Berrios. Houston will turn to rookies Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins to pick up the slack in the passing game, which could be hit or miss depending on how quickly they adapt to Nick Caley’s offense.
As for Los Angeles, quarterback Matthew Stafford, who missed a majority of the offseason with an aggravated disk in his back, is expected to start the season opener against the Texans on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, coach Sean McVay said. The Super Bowl-winning gunslinger missed nearly the first month of training camp while dealing with the injury but has been a full participant in practice since his Aug. 18 return.
