What channel is Texas vs. UTEP on? Time, TV schedule to watch Week 3 game today

The Texas Longhorns host intra-system rival UTEP Saturday afternoon at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. The Longhorns are looking to build towards SEC conference play, while UTEP are trying to establish a winning program under second-year coach Scotty Walden.

The Miners are a good tuneup for Texas. UTEP has an aggressive defense and upgraded talent on offense. The Horns offense should get a good test this weekend, despite the weaker opponent. Texas quarterback Arch Manning will have two more games to improve before SEC conference season starts at Florida in October.

On defense, Texas should be pushed some by former five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson. UTEP is Nelson’s third team in three years. He was formerly at USC and Boise State.

Texas vs. UTEP Prediction

Get used to seeing UTEP in Austin. The Miners will play Texas at DKR four out of the next seven years. It’s doubtful UTEP will be close in any of those future games.

The Miners will hang around for a while against the Horns. The Texas offense is unfortunately making a habit of starting slow. Against Ohio State, it was very slow. The UTEP defense will stymie a few of Manning’s early drives. But then a big play will happen for Texas and after you blink, UT will be up by 21.

Will Texas cover the 40+ point spread? Can the Longhorns offense score 40 right now?

Either way, Texas wins.

Final Score: Texas 35, UTEP 13

Texas Longhorns Injury List

The biggest name that might miss UTEP is starting running back Quintrevion Wisner. After sitting out in last week’s win over San Jose State with a leg injury, Wisner is “doubtful” for Saturday’s game in Austin. “I’m not ruling him out, but I would say it’s doubtful,” Sarkisian said this week.

Wisner had 16 carries for 80 yards in the season opening loss to Ohio State, while splitting time with redshirt junior CJ Baxter. Against the Spartans, Baxter had 13 carries for 64 yards, sophomore Jerrick Gibson had seven carries for 38 yards and redshirt freshman Christian Clark chipped in 7 carries for 21 yards.

Wide receiver DeAndre Moore sustained a concussion against SJSU. “He got dinged,” Sarkisian said after the game. “I couldn’t see it from where it occurred, but he definitely got dinged and we held him (out) after that.”

Doubtful:

  • RB Quintrevion Wisner

Questionable:

  • WR DeAndre Moore
  • CB Wardell Mack
  • RB Colin Page
  • RB Rickey Stewart Jr.
  • DL Isaiah Coleman
  • DL Alex January
  • WR Emmett Mosley V

Out:

  • OL Andre Cojoe
