No. 6 seed Michigan basketball will face No. 11 Iowa State in the first round of the women’s NCAA tournament Friday.
The Wolverines are back in the tournament for the fifth straight year and eighth time total under head coach Kim Barnes Arico. Michigan will face Iowa State, which is coming off a win Wednesday night in one of the First Four games between the No. 11 seeds in the region.
The Wolverines are trying to advance to the second round for the first time since 2023 and make it to the second weekend of the tournament for the first time since 2022. Michigan has a strong pair of freshmen leading the charge, Olivia Olson and Syla Swords, and senior guard Jordan Hobbs as another double-digit scorer.

The Michigan vs. Iowa State winner will advance to the second round to face the winner of No. 3 Notre Dame vs. No. 14 Stephen F. Austin. Since the Fighting Irish are the lowest seed, the first two rounds will be hosted at Notre Dame’s campus in South Bend. Here’s how to watch and follow the action.
