While former Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard won’t be starting for the Indianapolis Colts this season, he showed in the final preseason game that he isn’t just a runner.
The sixth-round pick went 15-for-20 for 189-yards and a touchdown pass, and only ran once for 14-yards. The highlight of his night was a 59-yard touchdown pass to Laquon Treadwell, right before the first half ended.
t was the final chance for Leonard to show what he can do in a game-atmosphere, and he didn’t disappoint. With Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson ahead of him on the depth chart, unless they both get injured, we probably won’t see much of Leonard during the regular season.
The Colts could be souring on their former first-round pick in Richardson, and if Leonard shows enough in practice, he could make a move to QB2. Many consider him more of a runner, but if he can continue his progression as a passer, Leonard could really make a push to be the starter down the road.
