Last week brought plenty of impressive performances on the diamond.
Throughout the season, the Argus Leader will be picking finalists for its Athlete of the Week. The winner will be chosen by you. Vote now in the polls below:
Tya Devericks, Jefferson
Devericks played a pivotal role in Jefferson’s state championship victory, helping lead the team to a shutout win. On top of her performance on the mound she also contributed offensively, driving in a key RBI during the title game.
Madelyn Ducheneaux, Harrisburg
Senior captain Ducheneaux was instrumental in Harrisburg’s third-place finish at the state tournament. She drove in two runs and struck out five in the opener against O’Gorman and then capped off the tournament with four hits and four RBIs in a dominant performance against Lincoln in the third-place game.
Elisabeth Miller, West Central
Miller played a key role in leading West Central to its second Class A state title in three years. She pitched six strong innings in the championship game, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out eight to secure the win.
Whitney Portner, Jefferson
Portner gave Jefferson a strong start in the circle, holding Washington scoreless through the first 3.2 innings. She also delivered at the plate, hitting a two-RBI double in the top of the first to give the Cavaliers an early cushion.
Rylynn Routh, Washington
Rylynn Routh delivered standout performances for Washington throughout the state tournament. She went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the semifinal against Harrisburg. In the quarterfinal matchup against Rapid City Stevens Routh led the team with three RBIs, including a go-ahead home run.
