Vote for Louisville-area high school boys track athlete of the year before polls close

There were plenty of standout showings from Louisville-area athletes throughout the track and field season.

Voting is underway for The Courier Journal’s boys track and field athlete of the year. The poll closes at 6 p.m. Thursday, and the winner will be announced Friday.

Here are the nominees:

Taevion Sweeney, Male

Senior Taevion Sweeney won the 300-meter hurdles and was part of the first-place 1,600-meter relay in the KHSAA Class 3A Track & Field Outdoor State Championship.

James Burnett, St. Xavier

Senior James Burnett won the 400-meter state title for the third consecutive year, crossing the finish line in 47.47 seconds. The 2025 “Wah Wah” Jones Award recipient finished first in the long jump at the KHSAA Indoor Track & Field State Championships.

Aaron Ramey, Central

Junior Aaron Ramey is the Class 3A outdoor and indoor state champion for the high jump. He won the outdoor championship, with a 6-6 high jump. He broke the KHSAA indoor high jump record, clearing 6 feet, 10 inches.

Maurice Stephens, Ballard

Senior Maurice Stephens finished first in the 110-hurdles at the Class 3A outdoor state championships and first in the KHSAA Indoor Track & Field State Championships.

Rocco Pfeiffer, Trinity

Senior Rocco Pfeiffer hit a new personal record in the discus throw during the Class 3A outdoor championships with a 163-4 throw.
