Regional track and golf are in the rearview mirror, and a number of athletes from the Texas Panhandle have secured a spot at the state championships.
Standouts from both sports are among this week’s nominees for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week.
The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.
Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@amarillo.com, by messaging the Globe-News through its Facebook page or on Twitter @amarilloglobe.
Students in all varsity sports are eligible and can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.
The poll will close Thursday and the winners will be announced Friday each week.

This Week’s Finalists
Sierra and Willow Cornell, Amarillo High girls track & field — Sierra and Willow Cornell each had strong showings at the Region I-5A track meet. Sierra Cornell, a senior who is signed to run at West Texas A&M, placed first in the 800-meter dash to secure a regional title and a spot at the state track meet. Willow Cornell, a sophomore, placed second in the 300-meter hurdles to also punch her ticket to Austin. Both Willow and Sierra also ran the 1,600 relay for the Lady Sandies, helping AHS win the race and a team title at the regional track meet.Izak Dominguez, Hereford boys track & field — Just a few weeks after breaking his collarbone at the District 4-4A track meet, Dominguez won the 110-hurdles at the Region I-4A track meet to advance to the state track meet in Austin for the first time in his career.Tenera Gray, Randall girls track & field — Gray was one of the top performers at the Region I-4A track meet, taking home medals in four events. Gray placed third in high jump and second in triple jump, qualifying for state in the latter. The Lady Raiders’ standout also earned gold medals in long jump and the 300-meter hurdles, finishing the race in 43.45 seconds en route to setting a new regional record.Jackson Langford, Randall boys golf — Langford placed first as an individual at the Region I-4A golf tournament in Lubbock, helping the Raiders earn second place as a team and qualify for the state golf tournament.Imanol Marquez, Dumas boys track & field — Marquez earned a trio of gold medals at the Region I-4A track meet. The Demons’ standout won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.70 seconds and helped Dumas’ 4×200-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay teams place first and advance to state.Adrian Rosales, Booker boys track & field — Rosales won three events at the Region I-1A track meet, advancing to state individually in the 3,200-meter run and 1,600-meter run. Rosales beat the second-place finisher in the two-mile by more than 16 seconds, and defeated the runner-up in the mile by eight seconds. Rosales also helped Booker win the 1,600 relay as the team’s anchor leg.Ava Rushing, Plainview girls track & field — Rushing placed first in shot put at Region I-5A track meet, punching her ticket to state with a throw of 42 feet, 10 1/2 inches. Rushing’s heave was two feet and eight inches further than the second-place finisher’s furthest toss.Taylor Wiseman, Childress girls track & field — Wiseman won two gold medals at the Region I-3A track meet, placing first in shot put and discus. Wiseman topped the runner-up’s furthest throw by more than 17 feet in discus and beat out a 2024 state qualifier in shot put.
