Visakhapatnam: A father reportedly carried an oxygen cylinder on his shoulder to shift his prematurely born baby to the NICU due to unavailability of support staff at KGH in Visakhapatnam. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
According to a news report, the couple, Allu Shireesha and Vishnu Murthy, from Kotananduri in Kakinada district, faced this ordeal after Shireesha was admitted to the hospital on June 9 and gave birth to a baby on Tuesday, June 18. The newborn, born prematurely, was kept in the ICU under observation. Vishnu Murthy stepped in to carry the oxygen cylinder after speaking with an Aaya, as no staff was available to assist in shifting the baby. The episode was captured on mobile and across social media.
In response to the viral video, hospital superintendent Shivanand reportedly conducted an inquiry and discussed the incident with the staff at the gynecology ward. He announced that a battery car would be arranged at the gynecology department to prevent such incidents in the future.
According to a doctor at the hospital, assistance was provided, but the father had to carry the baby soon, anticipating that it would become too late to transfer the baby.
