Virtual Boy is coming to Nintendo Switch consoles in 2026

Here’s an unexpected twist: During Friday’s Nintendo Direct marking the 40th anniversary of Mario, Nintendo revealed that Virtual Boy games will be coming to the Switch Online on Feb. 17, 2026. Best of all, Nintendo’s releasing a new Virtual Boy headset to use with the retro games, though there’s not a firm release date or pricing information for that just yet. You’ll insert your Switch 1 or Switch 2 screen directly into the accessory in order to get the stereoscopic 3D effect. There will also be a cardboard headset to allow dabblers to experience Virtual Boy games, presumably to sidestep the expense of the tabletop version.
