US retail sales beat expectations on autos boost

Retail sales in the US surpassed expectations in July, boosted by a rebound in auto sales after a June cyber-attack, reaching $709.7 billion, up 1.0 percent from June. Excluding motor vehicles and parts, sales climbed 0.4 percent. This resilience in consumer spending provides some relief to policymakers despite continued high interest rates.
