US-Japan security talks focus on bolstering military cooperation, underscores threat from China

Japanese and U.S. defense officials agreed to enhance military cooperation, focusing on upgrading U.S. command and control in Japan and boosting American-licensed missile production. The decision comes amidst growing concerns over China’s influence and North Korea’s activities. At the Japan-U.S. Security Consultative Committee meeting in Tokyo, it was announced that the U.S. Forces Japan will receive expanded capabilities, and Japan will increase its defense production, including PAC-3 interceptors. This move also includes strengthening trilateral defense ties with South Korea.
