I never thought that I would be thankful that UNC football has two bye weeks in almost consecutive weekends, but I am this week.
North Carolina will join six other teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference that are taking this week off, including the California Golden Bears, Duke Blue Devils, Louisville Cardinals, Miami Hurricanes, Syracuse Orange, and Virginia Cavaliers. Both UNC and Cal will be fresh for their contest next weekend.
The Tar Heels have an interesting two-week bye scenario this season, as their last game against Clemson will be their only contest in almost an entire month. They played UCF on September 20th and, outside of their game last week, won’t play until this Friday, October 17th, almost 30 days in difference.
UNC football will return to action against the Cal Golden Bears at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley next Friday, Oct. 17. The Bears have had a surprisingly good season, heading into next week with a 4-2 record. They are 1-1 in conference play, having beaten Boston College and lost to Duke in the last two weeks.
Kickoff for the game is set at a 10:30 p.m. ET start time. North Carolina at Cal will be televised on ESPN as a prime-time game.
The Tar Heels have lost all three of their actual contests this year, getting embarrassed by both Big 12 schools they have played, and not even showing up to their game against Clemson in their first ACC matchup. They lost by 34 points to TCU at home and by 25 points on the road to UCF. With the 38-10 loss to Clemson, their season might as well be over; however, some life can come from a win in this game. They only need four more wins for bowl eligibility.
Here’s a look at North Carolina’s 2025 football regular season schedule.
