In the Jacksonville Jaguars’ team scrimmage on Friday night, we will see Travis Hunter playing both offense and defense during that practice, according to ESPN.
This will be the first time that takes place during training camp. Up to this point, Hunter has practiced on either offense or defense on a given day, with four practices coming at receiver and three at cornerback.
The Jaguars have a very detailed daily schedule for Hunter to ensure he is getting the required time that he needs on both sides of the ball.
However, since Day 1, James Gladstone and Liam Coen have also mentioned the importance of being fluid with Hunter’s schedule and adjusting as needed. How the scrimmage unfolds will play a role in determining what Hunter’s schedule looks like moving forward.
“He’ll go back to defense before our mock game, scrimmage and we’ll be able to use that mock as an evaluation to see what do we need to do now,” Liam Coen said after Monday’s practice.
“What did it look like in the scrimmage? Do we need to get him more on defense or hey, these other guys are producing and developing and we can keep with the schedule as is. It’ll be not a defining moment but an evaluation time for us.”
At both cornerback and wide receiver, Hunter has shined in recent practices. During Sunday’s practice at cornerback, he forced three pass breakups on only 21 snaps during 11-on-11s. On Thursday, when he was back at cornerback, he was hardly targeted.
Then during Tuesday’s practice, where Hunter played wide receiver, John Shipley of Jaguars on SI wrote that Hunter had “several impressive grabs” during that practice.
“Every day I’m up there and James and I are watching, it’s almost, when he’s not on offense, I’m like dang I want him on offense,” Boselli said in an interview with Action News Jax. “He makes us better. But then you watch him on defense, and you’re like, wait a second, we’re better with him on defense as well.
“He’s a special individual. Everyone knows the physical side of it, but the capacity he has mentally, his intellect is high, and he can process a lot of information and take it and translate it to a high-level play on the field.”
