Tony Allen still thinks that the Boston Celtics would have beaten the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2010 NBA Finals if former Boston big man Kendrick Perkins was healthy. Speaking on an episode of fellow Boston alum Jeff Teague’s “Club 520” podcast, the Grindfather took some time to look back on that fateful series between the league’s two oldest and greatest rivals in their battle for historic supremacy.
The Ubuntu era Celtics’ last, best shot at an NBA title and dynasty was ultimately foiled by Perk’s bad knee and a Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol-led Lakers squad Allen had a front row seat for. Boston would of course have a few more deep postseason runs, but this was as close as they came to hanging a second banner with that core — and Allen thinks they just missed doing so.
Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what he and Teague had to say about that snapshot in Celtics history for yourself.
