With fall camp kicking up, it’s been a busy week in Mizzou Athletics. And it’s easy to miss stuff.
So here’s a recap of what we didn’t cover the past week, with links to what we did.
Football
I started the week with my series of photo galleries looking at the NEZ construction site. Then Kenny wrote about Al Pogue addressing the future of Mizzou’s corners. Kenny also wrote about Whit Hafer putting his ‘freak’ athleticism to the test.
I talked to Curtis Luper about the Tiger running backs’ physical talent, before Kenny wrote about Derham Cato talking about the Tiger tight ends. Then I wrote about the many situations Sam Horn has lived through since getting to Columbia and Kenny wrote about Mizzou commit Kennan Harris being named a captain for his senior high school season.
I added a story about Marquis Johnson wanting to prove he’s more than a deep threat, then Kenny wrote about Blake Craig and Erik Link assessing the special teams. I added a story about five freshmen to watch and another about the Tiger defensive tackles looking for development. Which led in to Kenny writing about freshman DT Jason Dowell finding his way.
I wrote about Corey Batoon’s contract being extended, then about Khalil Jacobs feeling better than he did before his injury that ended last season. I added a story about the left tackle and right guard competitions heating up, then continued my series looking at historic Border War matchups with a look at 1978.
Kenny wrote about Mississippi State commit Micah Nickerson receiving an offer from Mizzou, then he added another about Pogue keeping Mizzou involved for edge Ba’Roc Willis.
I put together some power rankings for the Mizzou position groups, then wrote about the Tigers having a full stable of defensive ends. Kenny added a story about Trajen Greco battling for opportunities and I wrote a Said and Unsaid from Eliah Drinkwitz meeting with the media after Aug. 2’s practice.
I wrote about the defensive ends again, but just looking at the new guys, then I added a story about Jalen Catalon bringing experience and leadership.
Finally, I rounded up the first week of fall camp with a look back at what we learned.
I posted notes and insights from each day of Fall Camp I attended:
Also, I completed my series looking at the most important Mizzou football players in 2025:
I also posted multiple practice photo galleries:
Men’s Basketball
The Tigers officially announced an exhibition game against Kansas State on Oct. 24.
That is the night before the Missouri football team plays at Vanderbilt. And with tipoff at 9 p.m. (likely because the game is getting picked up for a TV triple header), I doubt I’ll be able to cover it in person.
We’ll figure something out, and if the game at Vandy is a night game, I’ll do both. But that one might be Kenny covering or I might cover it remotely from Nashville.
Women’s Basketball
The Tigers added Reka Toman, an international forward from Hungary, to this year’s roster.
Toman averaged 7.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while playing for Darazsak in Hungary’s A-Division.
The 6-foot forward played for Hungary’s national team each of the past four years.
Track & Field
Five Missouri competed at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships for a chance to represent the USA at the World Athletics World Championships in Tokyo in September.
To make the World Championships, competitors had to place third in the National Championships and meet the qualifying standard.
- Distance runner Karissa Schweizer placed sixth in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday. Schweizer ran a time of 32:10.82.
She then ran a time of 15:16.76 for sixth in the women’s 5,000-meter run on Sunday.
- Thrower Gabi Jacobs took on the women’s discus and placed third with a throw of 207-feet, 9-inches. Jacobs hit the mark on her final attempt besting her previous mark by nearly 13 feet to make it into the top 3 and earn a spot at the world championships.
- Thrower Mitchell Weber took 14th in the men’s discus with a toss of 190-6.
- In the jumps, the Tigers were represented by two women in the triple jump. Euphenia Andre placed third and will go to the world championships after jumping 44-9. Arianna Fisher just missed by taking fourth at 44-1.25.
The World Championships will be Sept. 13-21.
Wrestling
Ben Askren has continued to post updates on his recovery. Here is each one from the past week.
Softball
The Tigers added alum Emma Raabe to the coaching staff.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Emma back home as our Director of Player Development,” Missouri coach Larissa Anderson said. “Her experience as a Tiger and the success she had as a coach at Nebraska-Omaha have prepared her to make a tremendous impact on our program.”
