The price for a Charles Cross extension keeps going up for Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks left tackle Charles Cross recently underwent surgery for a finger injury. Meanwhile the Seahawks continue to ponder signing him to a multi-year contract extension. The longer they wait, the inevitably more expensive Cross will become.

There was more movement at the offensive tackle position earlier this week. The Las Vegas Raiders signed left tackle Kolton Miller to a three-year extension worth $66 million. Miller will earn an average annual salary of $22 million per year, with a sizable $42.5 million in total guarantees.

Cross’ representation, which he recently appointed, will be paying attention.

Earlier this offseason in July, the Green Bay Packers signed offensive tackle Zach Tom to a four-year extension worth $88 million (up to $92 million). Miller is now another offensive tackle earning more than $20 million per season. That’s probably the starting point for negotiations between Cross and the Seahawks.

Seahawks GM John Schneider exercised Cross’ fifth-year contract option earlier this offseason. Cross is now under contract with the Seahawks through 2026. The decision guaranteed him $17.5 million in 2026, significantly less than what he’ll demand on an extension.

The Seahawks should sign Cross to an extension. Schneider is gaining nothing by waiting. Miller’s deal adds another layer of discussion to negotiations.
