As is tradition, the final piece of the 17th Annual Giant Bomb Game of the Year is the community’s pick for best game. Once again, I’d like to thank @rorie for keeping this going from 2016 to 2022 and @thatfrood for running the voting for years with no official help way back in the day.
This year, we had a total of 443 ballots submitted for a total of nearly 4000 votes (not everyone puts a full 10 games on their ballot). A total of 573 different games were nominated by y’all. For the purposes of this report, we’re going to look at the Top 50 (or 52 because of ties).
Last year’s vote ended up being a fairly tight race between The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur’s Gate 3. This year, it came down to two games again, but the results were even closer.
Like last year, we use a fully relaxed the set of rules for Community GOTY that encouraged everyone to put whatever-the-hell they wanted on their ballot. The points are based on a weighted system where your #1 is worth more than your #2 and so on. I don’t actually know what the math is on that because this “Community List” feature is built into the site. When the deadline hits, it just spits out a report, which I transcribed here. Maybe only Dave or Coonce know how it works? Anyway… let’s go!

Balatro takes the #1 spot by getting votes from 55.76% of everyone who submitted a ballot. Astro Bot was a close second by appearing on 51.02% of ballots. A total of six of the staff’s Top 10 appear on our list as well.
Many of you voted for some truly obscure stuff. A total of 323 games received only one vote while only 53 games got more than 10 votes.
Big shout out to the two of you who voted for SSX 3. The GOAT.
Fourteen different Final Fantasy games got votes.
There’s one sicko who’s out there playing John Romero’s Daikatana.
And I don’t know what we do about the person playing everyone’s favorite Ouya game. That’s right. Butt.
Well, that’s a wrap on the 2024 GOTY #content… maybe. You may know that I usually do a stats blog at the end of the year. Well, I haven’t been able to do that yet because neither Lucy nor Tam have presented a Top 10 list. I have everything ready to go and am just waiting to plug their numbers in. If we don’t hear from them in a week or so, I’ll probably just go ahead and post what I’ve got. So, keep an eye out for that.
If you missed any of the 2024 GOTY festivities, you can find everything on the Giant Bomb Game of the Year 2024 wiki page including all the winners, podcasts, videos, staff lists, and guest lists.
If you want to reminisce about past years’ GOTY stuff, I’ve built an entire GOTY Hub in the wiki just for you. The main page has all the big awards from throughout the years and there’s a breakout page for every year in more detail with all the podcasts and videos too.
Until next time.
