No. 5 Texas A&M (5-0, 2-0 SEC) will host Florida (2-3, 1-1) on Saturday night, looking to keep the undefeated season alive while sporting throwback uniforms honoring the 1975 team that finished 10-2, and shared the Southwest Conference title. On Wednesday, the first SEC Availability report revealed that senior safety Bryce Anderson will make his return after missing the last two games.
However, senior linebacker Scooby Williams, who injured his ankle during Texas A&M’s 41-40 win over Notre Dame, was still listed as questionable heading into the weekend. Still, according to the latest injury report, Williams is now listed as probable, backing up head coach Mike Elko’s statement during Wednesday’s Aggie Football Hour.
“It’s great we’ll have Bryce Anderson back this week. He’s healthy and running around out there. We should have Scooby Williams this week too.”
Getting both defenders back will provide an immediate boost to a defense that has played at an elite level during SEC play, limiting Auburn and Mississippi State to 1-23 on third down, and during Williams’ absence, junior linebacker Daymion Sanford has been lights out, recording nine tackles, a sack, and his first career interception and was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Anderson will enter a rotation behind Marcus Ratcliffe and Dalton Brooks, who have also played at a high level, providing more depth in coverage. After being listed as out, reserve safety and special teams star Jared Kerr is now questionable, while freshman tight end Kiotti Armstrong is now out.
