The Tennessee Titans were back on the practice field on Tuesday, and that meant that head coach Brian Callahan, Jeffery Simmons and Cam Ward would have to address the scrum that took place during practice on Monday.
The altercation, and the way it appeared the Titans handled the situation in the immediate aftermath, grew legs and became national news. And from the outset of the day, it was clear that the entire organization wanted to move on from the incident. As he pointed out, a team never wants its quarterback touched, but they also don’t want the quarterback to jump into the middle of the event.
#Titans Brian Callahan on the Jeffery Simmons and Cameron Ward confrontation: It was a training camp push and shove and some loud barking. I didn’t think too much of it. Of course you don’t want the QB being touched but the flip side is the quarterback going into the fray like…

Callahan is absolutely right: it’s training camp, it’s hot, tempers flare, you end practice and come back better the next day. And that is what happened Tuesday. For all of those involved moved on, and focused on improving.
That same sentiment was echoed by Simmons who talked to the media after practice and talked about moving on.
Jeffery Simmons on hitting Cam Ward Monday: I know I can’t hit him. I’d go after someone who did that to him. It’s the media’s fault. #Titanspic.twitter.com/0kfIMLQCd0

“At the end of the day… The quarterback. Hands off the quarterback.” Simmons said, “Anybody on this team knows, everyone in that locker room knows.”
As he pointed out, he would be the first to defend Ward if it were a joint practice or a game, and pointed out that the intensity of the competition ramped up the tempers on a hot Nashville day. He followed that by calling out the media and their role with the incident.
“People on the outside. You guys (reporters),” Simmons remarked, “Y’all blowing it up. Shouldn’t get blowed up. It’s training camp, tempers flare, move on.”
And then finished his statement with, “I’m done talking about it, that’s it.”
The Titans have much more pressing issues to deal at the moment instead of rehashing the logistics of a training camp scrum, the club appears to have moved on. Ward and Simmons returned to the field and led their units, and no one could tell that there even was an incident. That’s how it should be, and actually, a step forward for a young franchise trying to establish a culture in Nashville.
