Superbugs could kill over 39 million people by 2050 due to drug resistance

A study published in The Lancet warns that over 39 million people could die from antibiotic-resistant infections by 2050 if no action is taken. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), caused by bacteria becoming immune to existing drugs, is a growing threat that could also cost the global economy $1 trillion. Death rates are projected to rise most in South Asia, with older populations particularly at risk. Experts stress the need for improved healthcare, new antibiotics, and better global strategies to combat this pressing issue.
