Stock Market Live Updates 4 September 2024: Asian markets slide following US selloff; oil prices remain weak

Sensex, Nifty, Share Prices LIVE: Asian stocks declined sharply on Wednesday following Wall Street’s worst rout since early August, driven by a broad selloff in technology shares. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 3.87% to 37,188.08, and the Topix index dropped 3.21% to 2,645.41, while South Korea’s KOSPI index slid 2.56% to 2,596.41. U.S. markets experienced significant losses overnight, with the S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, and Dow Jones Industrial Average posting their largest single-day declines since early August. Investor sentiment was dampened by the Institute for Supply Management’s data showing continued weakness in U.S. manufacturing despite a slight uptick in August. Oil prices hovered near multi-month lows as signs of resolving the dispute disrupting Libyan crude production emerged. Brent crude futures fell 0.05% to $73.71 per barrel, while U.S. crude futures were down 0.13% to $70.25 per barrel after both dropped to their weakest levels since December in the prior session.
