Steelers release promising LB Mark Robinson

The Pittsburgh Steelers have parted ways with LB Mark Robinson as a part of final roster cuts ahead of the August 26 deadline.

On Monday, Robinson was released alongside 12 other Steelers to fit the 53-man roster requirements — which was surprising, to say the least, due to his strong contributions on special teams and his steady development on defense.

Selected with the 225th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Robinson appeared in just four games as a rookie, but played in every game over the past two seasons, primarily on special teams.

Rookie LB Carson Bruener, a standout special teamer and son of former Steelers TE Mark Bruener, was drafted in the seventh round by Pittsburgh to play a similar role — likely making Robinson expendable.

Robinson’s release wasn’t the only move that caught fans off guard, as the departure of veteran punter Cameron Johnston also left Steelers Nation shocked.
