State of the Program: Covenant Christian football looks to keep up hot streak in 2025

Covenant Christian football is coming off arguably the greatest season in program history.

Not only did the Lions claim an undefeated regular season, they received a first-round bye in the Division IV Select playoffs and even won their first playoff game.

However, the CCA postseason run came to an end short of the program’s first appearance in the Prep Classic.

Fast Facts

Nickname: LionsCoach: Jesse Turner (Third season)District: 7-1A2024 Record: 11-12024 Playoffs: Eliminated in DIV Select QuarterfinalTop Returning Players: RB Connor Lally, WR Jaden Carter

The Tradition

The Lions had one of the best seasons in program history in 2024, winning their first 11 games and going to the quarterfinal round before being eliminated from the LHSAA playoffs. Most of those wins were also routs — the closest game that CCA played in the regular season was a 17-point victory.

Add in the return of senior weapons like Connor Lally and Jaden Carter, and it’s easy to see why Covenant Christian is poised for another season for the ages in 2025.

The Challenge

Pulling off an undefeated regular season is a tall order for any team, even one that is coming off one a season ago.

The Lions will have to rebuild their offense, having lost their top three receiving threats from 2024 — wide receivers Jahari Carter and Bailey Streams as well as tight end Brennan Champagne — to graduation. Even with those players, CCA still fell to 11-seed and eventual finalist Ouachita Christian in the quarterfinal round.

The Expectations

While 2025 won’t be another undefeated season for Covenant Christian, the Lions will still have another strong year and make another run in the LHSAA playoffs. But ultimately, CCA won’t be able to get over the hump of a state title appearance.

The Schedule

CCA’s full schedule has not yet been released by the LHSAA. This story will be updated when the Lions’ full schedule is released.
