Sri Lanka sets September date for presidential election

Sri Lanka’s presidential election was set for September 21, ending speculation of postponement. Nominations are open on August 15. The election follows President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s ousting in 2022 due to economic turmoil. Incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe, who secured IMF aid, is expected to contest.
