Bengaluru: The High Court of Karnataka on Monday directed the Special Court for People’s Representatives, Bengaluru to defer all proceedings against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah till CM’s petition against Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot is heard (August 29). The High Court directed the trial court not to initiate any precipitative action against Siddaramaiah based on sanction accorded by the Governor.
However, Justice M. Nagaprasanna after hearing the Chief Minister’s writ petition against Governor’s decision, stated “No injunction has been granted.”
Earlier, CM filed a writ petition challenging Governor’s decision to grant sanction order for his prosecution under Section 17A of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and also under 218 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Samitha, 2023 on receipt of three petitions against CM in connection with alleged irregularities in allotment of plots to his wife by Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) in Mysuru city.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot accorded sanction for prosecution against CM on August 16 while it was communicated to Chief Secretary of the State Government on August 17. Earlier in the day Chief Minister sought High Court to quash amongst other reliefs in the grant of sanction for his prosecution accorded by Governor.
