Joshua Karty has had a terrible second season with the Los Angeles Rams, missing an NFL-high eight kicks in eight games. Not all of the miscues have been his fault, but the kicking unit hit rock bottom on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints when he missed a field goal and PAT badly.
Sean McVay indicated the Rams would bring in some competition and they did so on Wednesday. The team announced it has signed kicker Harrison Mevis to the practice squad, putting a little bit of pressure on Karty to maintain his job in Los Angeles.
Mevis has never kicked in a regular-season game but he’s had stints with the Panthers and Jets since going undrafted out of Missouri in 2024. He also played for the Birmingham Stallions briefly last season, going 20-for-21 on field goals, even winning UFL Special Teams Player of the Week one time.
At Missouri, Mevis was 89-for-106 on field goals with a long of 61 yards, breaking the SEC record for the longest field goal in conference history. It was a game-winner against 15th-ranked Kansas State, too.
To make room for Mevis on the practice squad, the Rams signed Ronnie Rivers to the active roster, giving them four running backs on the 53-man roster.
