Rahul Gandhi backs Elon Musk’s tweet on EVMs

Hyderabad:Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday responded to a tweet made by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and called the EVMs in India a “black box”.

Billionaire Elon Musk had on Saturday stressed on the risk of hacking Electronic Voting Machines by humans and AI and said ‘we should eliminate electronic voting machines.’

“We should eliminate electronic voting machines. The risk of being hacked by humans or AI, while small, is still too high.”Musk wrote on ‘X’ responding to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr quoting a report by the Associated press on the Puerto Rico primary elections argued that the EVMs can be hacked and asserted that America should return to ballot papers.

Joining Musk, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said “EVMs in India are a “black box,” and nobody is allowed to scrutinize them. Serious concerns are being raised about transparency in our electoral process. Democracy ends up becoming a sham and prone to fraud when institutions lack accountability.”

Rahul Gandhi along with the tweet uploaded an image of a media report which claimed that a relative of Shiv Sena’s candidate, who won the polls from Mumbai’s north west by 48 votes, had a phone that unlocks an EVM.

Opposition parties have been voicing concerns on EVMs for some time now and have demanded a 100 per cent count of the VVPAT slips which was not allowed.
