Police clash footage shocks Bangladesh as internet returns

Bangladesh has experienced a ferocious police clampdown following the death of 206 people last month during the worst unrest of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s tenure. The unrest was sparked by student demonstrations against civil service hiring rules. Most of the dead were protesters killed by police fire, with rights groups and the European Union condemning the excessive use of force. The unrest has since calmed, but several graphic amateur videos published to social media have inflamed public anger against Hasina’s government.
