Panthers GM Dan Morgan explains his strong conviction about drafting WR Jimmy Horn Jr.

We can definitely chalk Carolina Panthers wideout Jimmy Horn Jr. as a Dan Morgan guy.

Morgan, in his second draft as president of football operations and general manager, ended Carolina’s selection process by taking Horn with this year’s 208th overall pick. We’d later learn, through the latest episode of “Panthers Blueprint,” that Morgan was “convicted” on the University of Colorado standout.

He explained his strong feeling on Horn during Friday’s edition of The Rich Eisen Show.

“Just getting to know Jimmy as a person, just kinda what he’s been through, where he grew up and just the adversity he’s been through—I really wanted him,” Morgan stated. “We wanted him, as an organization, just to add another player with speed and dynamic traits. And again, he’s a great kid as well.”

Horn spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at the University of South Florida, where he was named a first-team All-AAC selection in 2022. He’d then finish out with the Buffaloes, totaling 1,008 yards and seven touchdowns on 95 receptions between 2023 and 2024.

The 5-foot-8, 174-pound Sanford, Fla. native may have already shocked quite a few folks with his speed during the team’s early workouts. In fact, he’s seemingly garnered just as much hype as first-round receiver Tetairoa McMillan this spring.

But it may be safe to say that Morgan wasn’t among the surprised.
