Only Murders in the Building, Hulu’s favorite way to see how many awards-recipients it can fit onto one TV screen, is back in production for its fifth season. This year, the Selena Gomez–starring series added two awards of its own to its vast shelf — the series won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and Martin Short won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series at the SAG Awards in February. And if that weren’t enough glitz, stars are still being announced for a cast that already includes two two-time Oscar winners. It’s the most prestigious farce on television. Below, everything we know about the celebrity-filled fifth season.
Who’s joining the cast?
Booksmart star and Broadway actress Beanie Feldstein is the latest famous face to head to the Arconia, Deadline reported on April 15. Continuing a recent chain of casting announcements, Variety also confirmed earlier this month that Logan Lerman and Jermaine Fowler had both signed onto the show in recurring guest star roles. Two-time Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger previously joined the cast on March 26, according Deadline. That makes for two two-timers, after Christoph Waltz joined the cast on March 21, per Variety. Waltz has got a more serious vibe than this show typically goes for, but maybe this season will turn into a Tarantino production. Either way, he’ll be balanced out by Keegan-Michael Key of Key & Peele.
What’s it going to be about?
There’s no official confirmation on plot details. In the season-four finale, Lester the doorman (played by Teddy Coluca) was found shot in the courtyard fountain, giving the trio at least one murder in the building to solve. Additionally, the mysterious mob wife Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni) showed up looking for help at the end of last season, and Leoni is confirmed, by Deadline, to be returning for season five. Selena Gomez heads back to organized crime after Emilia Pérez? That’s su camino.
When’s the release date?
Production began in New York in March, but Hulu has not officially announced a release date — that’s a case we’ve yet to crack.
