Netflix’s One Piece returns in 2027 for season 3, and it could wrap up one of the manga’s best arcs

One Piece is embarking on a new adventure in 2027 with season 3’s Battle of Alabasta.

As revealed by Netflix in a sand-covered teaser, the live-action remake of One Piece has a quick turnaround and will hit our screens next year.

Given the One Piece season 2 ending set up Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat crew heading to Vivi’s homeland of Alabasta, it should come as little surprise that the Going Merry is setting sail to these uncharted waters in particular.

Netflix revealed filming for the next season in South Africa began back in November, and while little else is known about One Piece season 3 right now, save for production being well underway, we do have a brief synopsis:

“War is coming for Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew in the desert kingdom of Alabasta, Princess Vivi’s homeland. A rebellion threatens to tear the nation apart, fueled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works, who seek to conquer Alabasta for themselves. In a season defined by unbreakable bonds and impossible choices, the Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand.”

Confirmed One Piece season 3 newcomers include Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña as Portgas D. Ace and Cole Escola as Bon Clay.

Manga readers and anime viewers will be acutely aware that the third season will round out the epic Alabasta Arc from Eiichiro Oda’s source material.

On the decision to split the adaptation across two seasons, co-showrunner Joe Tracz told The Wrap, “We knew that arc is so beloved, it’s so important, it’s so complicated, that to try to compress it into one eight-episode season was always going to leave out some of the heart of it…It was always a two-season plan. We’re lucky enough that we’re getting to wrap up that story.”
