The Big 12-Big Ten battle between Nebraska and Cincinnati lived up to the hype.
The Huskers needed a break and got it late to secure a 20-17 win at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night. Malcolm Hartzog Jr. picked off Brendan Sorsby’s pass in the end zone with 34 seconds left, preserving the win for Matt Rhule’s squad.
Dylan Raiola threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns on the night. He put the Huskers up 13-3 at halftime and added a touchdown to Dane Key with 10:36 left. Cincinnati fought to get back in it with Sorsby driving 75 yards that resulted in a touchdown of his own from a yard out.
After stopping Nebraska on the ensuing drive, the Bearcats got within field goal range to try and force overtime. However, the over-the-top attempt for Sorsby resulted in the game-sealing pick by Hartzog.
Nebraska dominated with a 19-minute edge in time of possession. Rhule and the Huskers start the season with some momentum on their side. It wasn’t just Raiola leading the charge as Emmett Johnson added 108 yards rushing. For Cincinnati, the struggle was real with 271 yards of total offense and being held to under three scores. But they kept it interesting down the stretch.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift made their first public appearance since announcing their engagement this week. The Chiefs tight end and Cincinnati alum was joined by his brother, Jason, along with Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany in the Arrowhead crowd.
