Micah Parsons Joins Cowboys for Birthday Celebration Amid Contract Conflict originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The ongoing contract extension dispute between superstar defender Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys front office hasn’t stopped Parsons from showcasing his leadership and bonding with teammates.
On Wednesday night, Parsons joined his teammates to celebrate the birthdays of star defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa and electric linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. Both defenders are in the prime of their careers as Odighizuwa turned 27 and Overshown turned 25.
In a video circulating on social media, Parsons can be seen carrying the birthday cake as everyone present begins to sing “Happy Birthday.”
Having a team that enjoys being around and working with each other pays dividends throughout the grind of an NFL season.
Parsons, Odighizuwa, and Overshown are young cornerstones for a Cowboys defense that will look to thrive under new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.
Eberflus calls the three-technique defensive tackle the engine of his defense, and with a freshly signed four-year, $80 million contract extension with $58 million guaranteed, Odighizuwa is poised for a major role this upcoming season.
“Osa’s been great. I love his work ethic, I love the way he brings guys together,” Eberflus said. “He’s been working with the young guys, the young d-tackles that we have with Tommy [Akingbesote] and Jay [Toia], really doing a good job with Mazi, then having Solly in there has been wonderful as well.”
As contract talks with Parsons continue – well, kind of, as team owner Jerry Jones continues to suggest that there is no urgency while Micah’s last stated position is that he wants to be traded – moments like these give hope to fans and players that under new coach Brian Schottenheimer and his culture-first approach, leadership, camaraderie, and unity might just be pillars of the Cowboys’ locker room heading into a pivotal season. …
And ultimately, maybe that unity includes a happy Micah Parsons.
