Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, is reportedly offering millions of dollars to Hollywood celebrities for the right to use their voices for artificial intelligence projects, according to a Bloomberg report.
The company could use the voices into its digital assistant but negotiations have been challenging for the company as the actors have set stricter limits. Meta has been in talks with top talent representatives and they would like to have the rights to use the voices of celebs for over a fixed period of time.
This comes amid the actors and writers who went on strike last year against the use of AI, as they feared that they would lose their job to the AI technology. However, SAG-AFTRA, the unions for actors, has reportedly reached an agreement with Meta on terms on the use of the voices.
