Gina Carano is no longer suing Lucasfilm and Disney. The companies settled with the actress on August 7 in her Elon Musk–funded lawsuit over allegations that she was wrongfully terminated from The Mandalorian over her social-media posts in 2021. Naturally, she celebrated the news of the settlement on X. “I want to extend my deepest most heartfelt gratitude to Elon Musk, @elonmusk a man I’ve never met, who did this Good Samaritan deed for me in funding my lawsuit,” she tweeted. “Thank you Mr. Musk and @X for backing my case and asking for nothing in return.” Musk stepped in when Carano filed her lawsuit last February in a federal court in California, pledging to fund legal cases for anyone who gets fired over activity on his social-media platform.

Carano has previously suggested that her words had been “twisted” to “demonize & dehumanize” her as an “alt right wing extremist.” One of her most controversial posts seemed to liken being a conservative in modern times to being Jewish in Nazi Germany, though she denied that she was making that comparison. She previously faced backlash for posts that appeared to mock people for masking during the pandemic and that suggested there was voter fraud during the 2016 presidential election. In 2020, she put “beep/bop/boop” in her Twitter bio after fans asked her to include her pronouns on her profile, though she denied that she was mocking trans people. At the time of her firing, a spokesperson for Lucasfilm said that her posts “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities” were “abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The terms of the settlement were not immediately made public, but Carano tweeted that she believes the agreement reached is “the best outcome for all parties involved,” adding, “I hope this brings some healing to the force.” (Her original complaint requested that she be rehired or compensated at least $75,000.) Carano said that her “desires remain in the arts,” and in a statement, her former employer seems open to a reunion. “Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect,” Lucasfilm wrote. “With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
