Low pressure forms over Bay, heavy rains likely

Visakhapatnam: A fresh low-pressure area, formed over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts, likely to trigger heavy rains at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh comprising West Godavari, East Godavari, Kakinada, Konaseema, Eluru, Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, ASR, Manyam and Srikakulam districts and few places in NTR and Krishna districts of south coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) on Friday.

The IMD forecast that isolated places in NCAP and Yanam will experience heavy rains on Saturday and few parts of ASR, Manyam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam will experience heavy rains on Sunday . Strong Surface winds with speed 30-40 Kmph likely at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and Rayalaseema regions from September 6 to September 8.

The Monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Suratgarh, Rohtak, Orai, Mandla, to the centre of above low pressure area over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts and thence south eastwards to east central Bay of Bengal. The southwest monsoon is active over CAP and Yanam but weak over Rayalaseema, the IMD report added.

During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, Anakapalle district recorded the highest rainfall of 11 cm, followed by 7 cm rainfall each in Dowleswaram (East Godavari), Gudivada (Krishna) and Masulipatnam (Krishna), 6 cm each in Velairpad, Kukunoor and Kaikalur (Eluru) and Bhimavaram (West Godavari) and 5 cm each in Kunavaram (ASR), Vijayawada (NTR), Nuzvid (Eluru), Eluru, and Anakapalle.

The officials said that parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh experienced heavy rains on Thursday.
