The Texas Longhorns have continued their impressive run on the recruiting trail. On Tuesday, one of the best prospects in the 2027 class, LHP Mason Sims, committed to Texas. While his college debut is still years away, the addition of Sims has made the future of Longhorns baseball brighter.
In Sims, Texas, is adding the 11th-best southpaw in his class. During his high school career, the California native has not been afraid of pounding the strike zone. His arsenal includes a fastball that he can blow past hitters and a curveball that keeps opponents off balance. With plenty of room to grow, Sims has the potential to be a top-of-the-rotation arm.

Crafty, deceptive, can really shape the baseball. Pours in strikes with an excellent operation. Phenomenal mover.

While Sims has made headlines with his arm, he is a two-way talent. When he isn’t striking out batters, he has shown off impressive range in the outfield. Regardless of the position, Sims has made an impact. That is partly why the Longhorns made him a priority on the recruiting trail.
Over the last few months, the Longhorns’ stock has been on the rise. They finished the 2025 campaign with a 44-14 record. They also thrived in SEC play with a 22-8 record. After one of their best seasons in recent memory, 10 players with Texas ties were selected in the 2025 MLB Draft, which is an encouraging sign for recruits.
🥶 Cool customer on the mound
LHP Mason Sims tossed 3.0 strong, shutout frames @ACBaseballGames. Created timing and rhythm well; lower slot helped add natural weight to FB and he was able to execute two-plane CB from that slot.

Although the Longhorns are excited about what Sims will do in college, he will be surrounded by a lot of talent. The Longhorns have also secured commitments in the 2027 class from LHP Luke Armijo, RHP/ OF JJ Utash, RHP Becket Berg, OF Ira Rootman, and Catcher Lee Holt. That group should provide plenty of unforgettable moments.
With Sims officially in the mix, fans can begin the countdown to his college career and what could be a special career in Austin.
