Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 Live Updates: Vote counting to begin soon: Can Modi’s BJP win a third term?

Lok Sabha election results live: The counting of votes for the General Election to the Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and bye-elections to Assembly Constituencies will begin shortly, bringing an end to a marathon polling exercise stretching over 80 days. Exit polls predicted a third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with most pollsters placing the BJP-led NDA far above the halfway mark of 272 in the 543-member Lower House and the opposition INDIA bloc falling way short of a majority. Assembly polls were held in Odisha alongside the national election, and the BJP and the BJD, which has been in power since 2000 under Naveen Patnaik’s leadership, are locked in a fierce battle for control. In Andhra Pradesh, the BJP-TDP-Jana Sena alliance is fighting against the ruling YSRCP. The results will determine the future of the Congress party, its alliance’s claims, and the fate of regional parties like the Trinamool Congress and Biju Janata Dal. Modi’s potential victory would equal Jawaharlal Nehru’s record, reinforcing the BJP’s dominance in Indian politics.
