Liam Coen seeing progress in training camp from Jaguars' former first-round draft pick

During minicamp, Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach Liam Coen highlighted everything that offensive tackle Anton Harrison brings to the offensive line unit. But Coen also added that consistently doing those things day in and day out was needed.

Through a handful of training camp practices, Coen and the Jaguars have seen that steady play from Harrison.

“We have,” Coen said after Monday’s practice about Harrison’s consistency. “Definitely. For the first few (practices), I’ve been very pleased with Anton. And we mentioned that to him. I asked him the other day in the hall. I said, ‘Hey, is this going to be every day? Is this how it’s going to be every single day?’ And he was very adamantly yes. And that’s what we have seen.”

A first-round pick by the Jaguars in 2023, Harrison has started 33 out of a possible 34 games over the last two seasons.

In 2024, Harrison surrendered four sacks and 31 pressures. Among all tackles, he ranked 35th in pass-blocking efficiency, and he was 61st in PFF’s run-blocking grade, for what it’s worth.

Following offseason programs, ESPN’s Michael DiRocco wrote that Harrison was rotating at right tackle with Chuma Edoga during those OTAs and minicamp practices.

With a number of new faces in the offensive line room, the Jaguars are embracing competition up front this summer. While naturally, all eyes go to the passing game, consistent success for any offense begins with the offensive line providing a run game to lean on and time in the pocket for the quarterback.

“For him to take a step in the right direction in our eyes, for sure, is only going to help us moving forward because he’s so talented,” Coen added. “When he plays locked in, when he plays with great effort, and strains through the echo of the whistle, good things typically happen.”
