Kanchanjunga express accident: Railway Board reveals why anti-collision system ‘Kavach’ was not in place on mishap route

A collision between a goods train and the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express near New Jalpaiguri resulted in several deaths and around 50 injuries on Monday. Railway Board Chairperson Jaya Varma Sinha disclosed that the anti-collision system ‘Kavach’ was not operational on the Guwahati-Delhi route during the incident. Plans are underway to expand the system’s coverage to 4,500 km by year-end.
