Jimmy Kimmel Wins!

We did it, Joe Jim. Nexstar will be following Sinclair’s lead and bringing Jimmy Kimmel Live! back to its airwaves. “Nexstar today announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to the company’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network beginning tonight,” it said in a statement, albeit one that ignores the fact that tonight’s JKL! is technically a rerun. Luckily for those in Nexstar markets like Wheeling, West Virginia, and Steubenville, Ohio, the episode that will run tonight is a repeat of Tuesday’s record-breaking first episode back from suspension. Revel in Kimmel’s monologue, Steubenville. Then learn that the JKL! producers used to let an out-of-work Glen Powell rummage through their greenroom leftovers like some sort of telegenic raccoon.

It seems all who conspired against Kimmel have now taken an L. Last week, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was taken off the air “indefinitely” after FCC chair Brendan Carr made threatening remarks on a podcast. Carr was upset at a monologue joke that he took as saying Charlie Kirk’s killer was MAGA. On the pod, Carr mentioned ABC and its affiliates need FCC licenses to operate, saying, “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” The next day, Nexstar said it would be preempting JKL!, followed closely by Sinclair pledging the same. Then ABC said it was suspending the show indefinitely, only to reinstate Kimmel a week later to his best ratings ever. Carr distanced himself from the whole thing shortly after, and now both Sinclair and Nexstar have undone their boycott. Trump is still pretty miffed, though.
