Jaxson Hayes is staying with the Los Angeles Lakers. On Sunday, the bouncy center agreed to a one-year contract that will pay him $3.45 million.
The fact that he signed for more than the veteran’s minimum was unexpected, and it will prevent the Lakers from having access to their full bi-annual exception unless they shed enough salary. However, Hayes did help them out in terms of roster flexibility in another way.
According to Dan Woike of The Athletic, he did waive his implicit no-trade clause, which will allow the team to include him in a trade in order to improve its roster.

No-trade clauses are extremely rare in the NBA. Currently, only LeBron James and Bradley Beal have a no-trade clause in their contracts.
Hayes averaged 6.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 19.5 minutes a game this past season and became the Lakers’ starting center after Anthony Davis was sent away in the trade that brought them Luka Doncic. Now, Hayes will be a reserve behind Deandre Ayton.
