Jacksonville Jaguars' CB Tyson Campbell on defending Travis Hunter at WR

What’s it like having to defend Travis Hunter when he’s lined up at wide receiver? Following Sunday’s training camp practice, Jacksonville Jaguars’ cornerback Tyson Campbell highlighted what some of those challenges are.

“Just how quick he is and how shifty he is,” Campbell said. “He gets to his spot and Trevor’s able to put it anywhere and he’s athletic enough to reach out and go get it. His ball skills are definitely something that catches your eye.”

Hunter possesses highly impressive ball skills. During his 2024 season at Colorado, Hunter would catch a whopping 80% of his 115 targets, according to PFF.

After the Jaguars‘ scrimmage on Friday, Liam Coen also noted Hunter’s ability to operate in space.

So far, Hunter has seen more training camp practices at the receiver position–although snap count-wise, the distribution between receiver and cornerback snaps has been fairly equal.

Coen would mention to The Athletic recently that wideout is where more refinement is needed for Hunter, given the technique and nuance that goes into playing that position.

On the days when Hunter is lining up on defense, those same ball skills that Campbell sees at receiver are on display at cornerback.

“That’s what makes him so unique,” Campbell added. “He brings those ball skills from the offensive side and uses them in the same way on the defensive side.”
