IU women's basketball lands McDonald's All American, top-30 recruit from Big Ten rival

Indiana women’s basketball roster remodel got a boost Saturday night with the addition of UCLA forward Zania Socka-Nguemen out of the transfer portal.

A 6-3 freshman from Silver Spring, Md., Socka-Nguemen averaged 1.5 points a game in limited playing time for the Final Four participant Bruins this past season.

A McDonald’s All American and top-30 recruit in the 2024 class, Socka-Nguemen included IU among her finalists out of high school before picking UCLA.

She’s the third portal commit this offseason as the Hoosiers continue to revamp a roster hit hard by graduation and transfer defections. Former IndyStar Miss Basketball Chloe Spreen (Alabama) and Dutch guard Phoenix Stotijn (Arkansas) have already committed. Socka-Nguemen, Spreen and Stotijn all have three years of eligibility remaining.
