It's no coincidence Raiders rookie WR Jack Bech looks better in pads

The Las Vegas Raiders strengthened their wide receiver corps by selecting Jack Bech with the No. 58 overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft. Bech arrived in Vegas with immediate expectations, but some premature concerns dominated the initial conversation.

Bech wasn’t a big-time standout at OTAs or mandatory minicamp. A league-wide issue regarding rookie contracts for second-round picks was another issue altogether. Bech eventually signed his four-year rookie agreement.

The Raiders recently put the pads on at training camp. Since practice has started emulating real football, Bech has stepped up his game and really looked like the difference maker he was drafted to be. It’s no coincidence that Bech has started impressing in a more physical practice environment.

Bech is a physical specimen at 6-foot-2 and 214 pounds. On tape at TCU, he was a gritty, high-motor, and physical receiver who loved initiating contact as a pass catcher and blocker. Bech’s frame has been an asset at Raiders camp since the pads came on.

Bech may have been the best run-blocking receiver on the perimeter in the draft. That skill-set vibes well with the offense head coach Pete Carroll is trying to build around rookie running back Ashton Jeanty. Bech has brought some intensity and physicality to camp as a blocker.

I love running people into the ground when I’m blocking,” Bech told The Draft Network during the pre-draft process. “Obviously, I love scoring touchdowns, but I equally love dumping somebody into the dirt as a blocker.”

Bech’s physicality has popped at training camp. Concerns over Bech’s involvement in the Raiders’ offense proved to be premature. Those familiar with his skill-set haven’t been surprised by his presence at recent practice sessions.
